Why do “We the People of the United States”, allow our battlefields to be turned into an arena for “political correctness”? What do “We the People…” expect to happen when a combat soldier is confronted by the enemy and in a split second, must consider the “Rules of Engagement” and what is called today “political correctness”. This scenario played out a few months ago in Bagdad, Iraq, sometime in September 2009. I was privileged this weekend to attend a “legal defense” fund raiser for three Navy Seals. Here is the story:
Orders had come down from somewhere well above the “Seal Team” level that they were to move out on a mission to capture one of the most wanted terrorists in Iraq, a man known at the mastermind and participant in the capture of Black Water security personnel, torturing them and hanging some from a bridge overpass for all to see. This night he was targeted by one of our Seal teams for capture and extraction back to headquarters. None of us will ever know the dangers associated with this mission but I can assure you that the risks were great and an unsuccessful mission could have meant certain death for the Seals.
But what about the danger of success, you say? What danger could there be with a successful outcome? The Seal team successfully captured the terrorist, immediately placed a black bag over his head (standard operating procedure) and moved the terrorist back to headquarters: “Mission Accomplished! Job Well Done”! Not so fast, now is where the story gets strange. The terrorist complained to the interpreter that he was punched in the stomach, after capture, by one of the Seals. Their commander fills out a report that moves up the “Chain of Command” and then, the Politically Correct Team arrives, interviews the Seal team, determines they are lying, and recommends a Courts Martial for three of the seven, and adds to the charges lying to an officer because they stated (and I believe after Saturday) that they did NOT hit the terrorist yet the Politically Correct Teams believes they are lying and of course this #1 wanted terrorist would never lie once captured, B.S. Terrorists are trained to manufacture tales and wrong doing to get our media to take up their cause and report the mistreatment.
Congress made an attempt to convince the military that a Court Martial was unjustified and yet only 77 of our “We the People’s” elected officials signed the petition. What a travesty to have only 77 of our elected representatives step up to have the Court Martial of these three, brave, and heroic Navy Seals, dismissed. The President of the United States was asked, as the Commander and Chief of our Armed Forces, to order a dismissal of the charges and as of this writing has not acted.
I am asking you, “We the People…” to stand up and support these three Warriors, these three Navy Seals, by going to www.supporttheseals.org and provide them with your support, both financial and by contacting your senators and representatives to let them know how you disapprove of the inaction.
